‘On Tenter Hooks’ – (Mixed Media – rust, cotton, wood, fabric, nails, rubber gloves) £75
‘On tenter hooks’ is an original artwork, derived from early experiences as a teenager working in the Peel fish yards in the 1970’s. The gloves within this artwork were a small part of a large installation within the ‘Fragmented Memories’ exhibition at the Sayle Gallery in 2013. The concept is about working hands, their capabilities and the physical pain they can endure (particularly from the nails on the tentering sticks, used for hanging kippers). The rusty fabric represents the rusty nails on the tenter sticks and the orange ‘dye’ that was used to cure the herring, prior to them being smoked.
*Please note that this piece does include exposed nails.
