Woodturned Ash Bowl – Manx Tartan Inspired

This stunning piece of Ash came from Abbeylands, Isle of Man. It has been dried out over a number of years before being turned and delicately painted on the outside. The turned inside has been left to show off the natural beauty and grain of this piece of Ash. It has been thinly turned and this reflects in the lightness of the bowl.
My inspiration for this came from the Laxey Manx Tartan.
The size is approx 9cm high and 15.5 cm diametre

Mark got his love of wood from growing up on a farm in Northern Ireland and spending a lot of his time in the forests and countryside.

Moving to the Isle of Man over 20 years ago, he began working as a tree surgeon and his inspiration to create out of the wood he cut down began to grow! And so it began, over the years it has developed into woodturning, wall hangings, sculpture and bespoke furniture.

He now has a ‘mountain’ of native Manx woods including, elm, yew, laburnum, cherry and many, many more! All waiting in the various stages of readiness to turn into beautiful unique pieces of art
