This piece of Spalted Beech is from a fallen tree in Ballaugh. The wood was left to dry over a number of years before being turned and decorated. The outside of the bowl has been stained in a rich blue before being polished.
Whilst working with this particular piece of wood I included the natural voids, this helps to show the story of the tree itself.

Mark got his love of wood from growing up on a farm in Northern Ireland and spending a lot of his time in the forests and countryside.

Moving to the Isle of Man over 20 years ago, he began working as a tree surgeon and his inspiration to create out of the wood he cut down began to grow! And so it began, over the years it has developed into woodturning, wall hangings, sculpture and bespoke furniture.

He now has a ‘mountain’ of native Manx woods including, elm, yew, laburnum, cherry and many, many more! All waiting in the various stages of readiness to turn into beautiful unique pieces of art
